The Moon-Sighting Committee in the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Sunday, June 25th, 2017 will be the first day of the month of Shawwal 1438AH for all the areas under the horizon visibility curve from Orlando, FL through New Orleans, LA, Phoenix, AZ to Los Angeles, CA; including all areas in close proximity to this visibility curve. For the rest of North America, the first day of the month of Shawwal 1438AH will be on Monday, June 26th, 2017.

As the blessed month of Ramadhan nears its end, we would like to remind everyone about Zakat al-fitr.  The minimum recommended amount for this year will be 10$ USD if you are not able to provide at least 6.61lbs (3 kilograms) of food commodity. For those who need more information regarding Zakat al-fitr, please check out the following FAQ.

This Zakat should not be sent out of the city you live in if there are deserving mumineen who reside in that city. It can be distributed directly, through the religious authority (Marja) and their representatives (Wakeel), the Masjid, or those who are familiar with the rules of it’s distribution.

In addition to the Nightly Ramadhan programs held at the Masjid through June 25th, Saturday’s Laylatul Qadr program has been extend to run from 7PM until Fajr prayers on Sunday morning.  Additional details can be found on the flyer below.  We encourage all to attend.
